Bonteheuwel toddler succumbs to injuries after being struck by car

Western Cape police are on the hunt for a suspect who fatally struck a toddler with his vehicle in Bonteheuwel on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred in Blackberry Street. 

‘’Police members were called to the local day hospital where the body of the victim was pointed out by medical staff. According to reports the victim was hit by a vehicle and was transported to a medical facility for treatment where he was declared deceased on arrival at the medical facility. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Bonteheuwel ward councillor, Angus Mackenzie, identified the boy as Luke Peterson, a young resident of Bonteheuwel. He noted that the incident has left the community is pain, with him personally being impacted, having known the boy. 

‘’This one hits very close to home — not only is the family personally known to me, but I have had the privilege of meeting Luke on numerous occasions. To see a young life, so full of joy and innocence, taken so soon is absolutely heartbreaking. To the Peterson family, you have my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. I have spoken with you, and I want you to know that we will do everything possible to support you through this very, very difficult time. May Luke’s beautiful little soul rest in peace, and may the family find strength and comfort in the love that surrounds them tonight,’’ said McKenzie.
