Suspect arrested after heated altercation with City traffic officer

The City of Cape Town has condemned an incident in which a motorist avoided arrest by a traffic officer, this week.

In a video gone viral, it can be seen an altercation between the motorist and the officer on the N1 outbound onto the Durban Road bridge, on Monday.

In a statement, the City says a City Traffic Officer observed a Honda vehicle that was driving recklessly.  The officer stopped the driver and interviewed him, but the driver became aggressive and failed to comply with the officer's instructions.

MMC for Safety & Security, JP Smith, says the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving and assault. He was detained at Bellville SAPS.
