Young stone throwers in Manenberg attack local tuckshop

Manenberg police met with the neighbourhood’s infamous stone throwers and their parents to end the violence after an attack on a local tuckshop.

Stone throwing teen gangs have been terrorising residents, with police comparing the running battles in the streets of Manenberg to gang gunfire. Manenberg station commander Brigadier Jayce Naidoo said that some of the young boys were brought into the police station on Wednesday, by their parents.

Naidoo said “Stone-throwing has become the new sporadic gunfire. Only this time it’s more precise with our youth becoming targets. It has also seemed to escalate into targeting businesses for personal vendettas. This ruthless and violent behaviour cannot be tolerated. It is criminal to set up the vulnerable youth to create territorial fights. SAPS know that the stone is instigated and fueled by the established gangs using parents as direct inciters of this violent and dangerous behaviour.”

A mother of five, who asked not to be named, said she lives in Francesca Court, Manenberg and said that young boys are being groomed by gangs and stone throwing is the first step.
