A housing beneficiary verification drive will be held in the City of Cape Town’s Subcouncil 14 and 15 area on Saturday and Sunday.
Some areas in these council include Amandelsig, Kuils
River, Zevenwacht, Oakdene, Sarepta, Blackheath, Blue Downs, Eerste River,
Mfuleni and surrounds. The ward numbers are Ward 11, Ward 14, Ward 16,
Ward 17, Ward 19, Ward 108, and Ward 114.
According to the Western Cape’s Infrastructure Department,
this is a follow-up to a series of public meetings held to report on progress
on the Welmoed (Penhill) housing project near Eerste River.
When it is complete, Phase 1 of the Welmoed project will
deliver nearly 3 300 housing opportunities at a cost of R2.1 billion.
The verification drive will enable residents of Sub-Council
14 already registered on the housing waiting list to check their registrations,
and to amend their contact details and other relevant information, e.g., number
of dependants, marital status, income, and disability status. Those attending
verification events must bring all relevant documents with them, including
proof of identity, proof of residential address, proof of income, and proof of
disability status.
The department warned that no new registrations will be
possible at these verification events. New registrations are only possible at a
City of Cape Town housing office.
‘’During the DOI public meetings in the Sub-Council 14 area
in August, many communities expressed their frustration with the housing
waiting list and many complained about being on the waiting list for many years
without obtaining a housing opportunity. It is for this reason that the
Department has organised a verification drive for residents already registered
on the housing waiting list in Subcouncil 14,’’ said Tertius Simmers, Western
Cape Infrastructure MEC.
