More than 700 suspected gang members have been arrested across Cape Town over the past seven months.
The arrests follow the April deployment of nearly 1,000 additional officers into gang hotspots across the city.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the intensified operations have dealt a major blow to organised crime. She said “We are seeing a lot of successes from the additional police officers deployed to prevent and combat gang related activity within the city of Cape Town. In the last 7 months, 722 gangsters have been arrested from various hotspot areas, like your Mitchells Plain, Mfuleni, Delft, Bishop Lavis.”
