The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) said the 2025 final examinations ran smoothly as candidates prepare to write their last paper on Wednesday.

One hundred and twelve papers were written during the exam period in the Western Cape, which began on 21 October 2025. A total of 1 470 candidates will write Agricultural Management Practices, Marine Sciences or Music Comprehension on the final day in the province.

‘’The exam session has run smoothly this year, thanks to the exceptional management by our officials and school staff. This is a massive administrative task, and we appreciate the support that the public has shown during the exams,’’ said David Maynier, western Cape Education MEC.

‘’Thank you to our matric teachers who have worked tirelessly to prepare our candidates for these exams. Your support has built a strong foundation for your learners’ future lives and careers, and we appreciate the extra time and effort you have put in throughout the year,’’ added the MEC.

4 190 markers will now mark over 954 000 exam scripts, with marking taking place at 12 marking centres.

The national matric results announcement will take place on Monday, 12 January 2026, and candidates will receive their results at their school or on the WCED website on Tuesday, 13 January 2026.
