The Cape of Good Hope SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) said it’s fully prepared to help animals and pets in distress over the Guy Fawkes period.
Although the day is not officially recognised by the country, many communities still partake in celebrations by setting off fireworks. The city has deemed the discharging of fireworks illegal, unless you have obtained a permit.
COURTESY: Facebook—Cape of Good Hope SPCASPCA spokesperson, Belinda Abraham said, “Discharging fireworks is not only illegal, it's also very cruel, and its very selfish, last Guy Fawkes, Cape Town showed true heart; our 24-hour cruelty line received only 32 complaints, which was the lowest we’ve ever recorded, and we’re hoping that that compassion will shine through again this year. Make sure your pets are microchipped and that they’re wearing collars and tags, bring them indoors and create a calm space away from the doors and windows if fireworks are being discharged in your area. You can also close the curtains, play some music, or turn the TV up a little to try and soften the noise, and keep them occupied with chews or toys.”
Abraham added that pet owners should be extra vigilant today.
