The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is confident that police will rigorously pursue a bomb threat at Wynberg Girls' High School. The bomb threat was the second at the school in recent days.
Police confirmed to Bush Radio News that the school was
declared safe hours after it was evacuated.
‘’Kindly be advised that the school has been declared safe
for use by school staff and learners by the Bomb Disposal and K9 Units. Classes
have resumed at the affected school,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape
police spokesperson.
The WCED said the integrity of the matric exams was not
compromised, as officials arranged secure transportation of NSC exam papers to
an alternative venue and candidates were directed, in advance, to this
location. Grade 12s wrote Life Sciences Paper 1 on Friday morning.
‘’Once SAPS gave us the all clear, other grades were able
to write their examinations as schedule, albeit a bit delayed,’’ said Bronagh
Hammond, WCED spokesperson.
"Regarding the hoax itself, this constitutes a very
serious criminal offence. Such actions are illegal and highly disruptive. We
trust that SAPS will pursue this matter rigorously and identify the
perpetrator. Anyone found responsible will face severe legal consequences as
prescribed by law,’’ she added.
