Counterfeit goods worth millions seized in Bellville

Western Cape police is cracking down on the illicit trade industry. Its Counterfeit, and Illicit Goods Unit in collaboration with brand protectors conducted an operation along Durban Road and Bellville station shopping Centre on Tuesday and targeted various business premises, suspected of selling counterfeit goods. A total of 35 business premises were searched during the operation and several clothing items, accessories and perfumes were seized to the value of R115 million.

‘’This seizure is a major step in disrupting the flow of illicit goods, further actions are expected as investigation continues. SAPS management in the Western Cape condemns illicit trade in the strongest possible terms. It is a blatant disregard for the law, and our members will not hesitate to act against those who seek to profit from it,’’ said Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Western Cape police spokesperson.
