Job seekers are urged to verify information before applying for work. This after a false advertisement circulated online claiming of a contract opportunity for R13 000 per month is available at the Mitchells Plain cleansing depot.
This misinformation resulted in a large group of people arriving at the depot in the belief that employment opportunities were being offered on site.
‘’The City confirms that the notice is fake and that no
such contract or recruitment process exists. Please do not travel to the
facility. The source of the notice is being investigated. In the interim,
residents are reminded that the City does not recruit people via WhatsApp
messages, flyers or word of mouth. Please be cautious of messages promising
guaranteed employment, fixed monthly amounts or asking people to report to
depots or facilities without a formal application process,’’ said Grant Twigg,
Mayco Member for Urban Waste Management.
He reminded job seekers that the City never charges a fee
to apply for jobs, EPWP opportunities or contracts.
Residents are encouraged to:
• Verify vacancies directly on the City’s official website.
• Avoid sharing unverified messages.
• Report suspected scams to the City via official contact
channels listed on www.capetown.gov.za.
‘’The City regrets the confusion and inconvenience caused and appeals to the public to help prevent the spread of false information by relying only on official sources,’’ said Twigg.
