Suspect sought for Phillipi mass murder

Western Cape police are seeking the assistance of the public to trace 28 year old Lonwabo Steven Dyasi who is wanted for murder.

According to SAPS, Dyasi is a suspect for the murders of nine people and the attempt to kill another on 17 January 2026, at a shebeen in the Marikana informal settlement, in Philippi East.

‘’A warrant for his arrest has been issued by the court. A 19 year old suspect was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on murder charges already,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Anyone with any information who can assist with the investigation or who knows the whereabouts of Lonwabo is requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Constable Sibusiso Manqindi on 072 980 2764 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
