It has been two full years since the disappearance of then six year old Joslin Smith.

Smith disappeared from her Saldanha Bay home in February 2024.

Following investigations, at the time, police reports revealed that, Joshlin was left at home with the mother’s boyfriend, Jacquen Appollis, to look after her as she allegedly was not feeling well. Later the afternoon, when the mother Racquel Chantel Smith also known as Kelly, returned from work, her daughter was not home. She asked about the whereabouts of the child but could not find her. She later got hold of her boyfriend who was supposed to look after the child, but he was unable to account for her whereabouts

A year after Joshlin Smith’s disappearance, Joshlin's mother, Kelly Smith, her then-boyfriend, Jacquin Appollis, and friend, Steveno van Rhyn faced charges of human trafficking and kidnapping.

In May 2025, the Western Cape High Court sentenced Joshlin's mother, Racquel “Kelly” Smith, Smith's boyfriend Jacquin “Boeta” Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn, for the kidnapping and trafficking of Joshlin Smith.

On the other hand, the Good Party says it still has hopes that Joslin Smith will still be found.

The Good Party’s Ricardo van der Merwe says authorities must continue their search for Joslin Smith.
