The National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, on charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
Adams allegedly interfered with ongoing investigations into ANC Youth League Leader Sindiso Magaqa.
Magaqa,
who previously served as secretary-general of the ANC Youth League, was shot
several times in an ambush in July 2017 in Umzimkhulu in KwaZulu-Natal while
travelling with colleagues, including local municipal officials. He died in
hospital weeks later.
On
Tuesday, Adams said he had approached SAPS and informed them he was willing to
hand himself in. This was hours after the Political Killings Task Team asked
him to present himself at the nearest police station.
Prior
to his arrest, Adams had been expected to appear before a KwaZulu-Natal court,
which he failed to do.
There
aren’t further details regarding the fraud chacharges;wever, it has been
confirmed that the warrant of arrest follows findings made during the Magaqa
investigation.
