Police are investigating a triple murder that occurred in Gugulethu at the Kanana informal settlement on Saturday night.
Police said three armed men stormed into a shack and opened fire, leaving two women and a young mean dead.
Reports indicate that three armed suspects arrived at a
shack in NY111, Kanana, looking for the owner of the shack, who was not at home
at the time.
The suspects waited for the owner to return and, upon her
arrival, opened fire on her and other occupants.
“A 41-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 21-year-old
man sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were declared deceased on the scene.
Several other occupants managed to flee during the attack and escaped
unharmed.” Col Andre Traut
The motive for this targeted attack is under investigation.
Western Cape Minister
of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais has condemned the murder
Marais says the attack left families and the community devastated and called for those responsible to be arrested and prosecuted.
She welcomed the
involvement of the South African Police Service's Provincial Serious Violent
Crime Unit in the investigation.
“We cannot allow this level of criminality to become a norm in our communities. Those responsible for this heinous crime must be identified, apprehended to face the full might of the law” said Marais.
