A major police operation in Bothasig has resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man after officers uncovered drugs with an estimated street value of R10 million, along with multiple firearms and ammunition.
The arrest followed an intelligence-driven investigation
conducted by Crime Intelligence officers, who received information alleging
that a local apartment was being used by a gang as a storage facility for illegal
firearms and narcotics.
According to police, officers kept the premises under
surveillance before intercepting the suspect as he left the apartment. During
the search, the man was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm,
leading to his immediate arrest.
A subsequent search of the apartment revealed a significant
cache of illegal items, including seven firearms, ammunition, and a large
quantity of drugs believed to be destined for distribution.
The seizure represents another significant blow against
organised crime and gang-related activities in the Western Cape, where law
enforcement agencies continue to target illegal firearms and the drug trade
through intelligence-led operations.
The 29-year-old suspect is expected to face charges related
to the unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, and drugs. Police have
confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to
determine whether additional suspects were involved and to establish the full
extent of the criminal operation.
Law enforcement has urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities, noting that community information plays a vital role in combating organised crime and ensuring safer neighbourhoods.
