Cable theft in Plantation Road

Three men were arrested last night for cable theft in Lotus River after the City Law Enforcement officers spotted thm on CCTV.

Officers moved in and caught the suspects in the act. They seized tools used in the crime such as large knives, a shovel and wire cutters.

MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith is calling on SAPS and the NPA to oppose bail for the three men. He says cable theft isn’t victimless, and when cables are stripped, it knocks out power, disrupts businesses and homes, costs taxpayers millions, and makes neighbourhoods unsafe.

People accused of such crimes should not be let back onto streets while their cases are still pending, because they are still a threat to society.
