The City of Cape Town has raised concerns over a significant increase in illegal dumping across the metro, with officials reporting a sharp rise in enforcement action against offenders.

247 vehicles linked to illegal dumping activities.
This figure represents more than double the number of
vehicles seized during the previous year, when 106 vehicles were impounded.
Officials say the increase reflects stronger enforcement
measures aimed at identifying and holding illegal dumpers accountable.
According to the city, the eastern parts of Cape Town
remain the areas most affected by illegal dumping.
Municipal teams continue to monitor hotspots and respond to
reports of waste being illegally discarded in public areas.
MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, welcomed the
increase in vehicle impoundments, saying the figures demonstrate the impact of
intensified enforcement operations.
Smith said the city remains committed to taking action
against individuals and businesses responsible for illegal dumping.
The City has encouraged residents to report illegal dumping
incidents and assist authorities in identifying offenders.
Officials say cooperation between communities and law
enforcement plays an important role in keeping neighbourhoods clean, safe, and
free from illegal waste disposal.
