Constant infrastructure problems in Khayelitsha

The Public Protector has found serious service delivery failures in parts of Cape Town, citing problems including overflowing sewage, poor housing maintenance, broken streetlights and inadequate security at clinics in Khayelitsha.

The report directs the City of Cape Town to improve water, sanitation, electricity and public lighting services, while National Treasury has been asked to review whether municipalities receive adequate funding to address infrastructure backlogs.

Residents have been waiting years for their communities to be fixed, but the City has not been adequate with their resources.
