Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services remain on the scene of a fire that broke out in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay earlier this morning.
Emergency crews responded swiftly after the blaze was
reported. On arrival, the first officer assessed the situation and immediately
requested additional firefighting resources, including a Type 4 Incident
Management Team, as the fire spread through the area.
Multiple firefighting teams are currently working to contain the flames, prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, and minimise damage.
Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says the incident remains active and conditions on the ground are constantly changing.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire or
the number of structures affected. There have also been no immediate reports of
injuries or fatalities.
Residents are urged to stay clear of the affected area to
allow emergency personnel to carry out their operations safely.
Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services say further updates will
be provided as more information becomes available.
