A 45-year-old man was shot and killed while driving to work in the Westgate area of Mitchells Plain on Thursday morning, 9 July 2026.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Weltevreden Road and Morgenster Road in Westgate. The victim was alone in a Hyundai mini truck when he came under attack.
The man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.
Mitchells Plain police have registered a murder case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. At this stage, the motive for the attack remains unknown and forms part of the ongoing investigation.
"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist investigations to come forward. Information can be provided anonymously by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using the MySAPS mobile application." police spokesperson, FC van Wyk.
Police investigations are continuing.
