Passenger rail has returned to the Garden Route for the first time in 16 years.
A heritage train operated by Ceres Rail Company carried
about 350 passengers on each trip between George and Great Brak River over the
weekend.
Western Cape Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku says the strong
public support shows that rail can boost tourism, connect communities and
provide affordable transport.
He says the success of the service strengthens the case for
bringing back more passenger rail services in the province.
