PRASA in the Western Cape has appealed to all commuters, employees, security personnel, and members of the public to uphold the standards of respect and safety that this network requires.
The appeal follows an incident
recently shared on social media, including allegations of misconduct by
security personnel, altercations between passengers, and reports of intimidation
and discrimination directed at fellow commuters.
“PRASA Western Cape treats
every reported incident with the seriousness it deserves. Each matter brought
to the organisation's attention is subjected to a formal internal investigation
to establish the facts and where misconduct is confirmed, appropriate corrective
and disciplinary action follows." PRASA
A woman has taken to social media with her
grievances, citing she was manhandled by security personnel while travelling on
one of its trains. In the video, the passenger is seen crying, reiterating what
happened. Prasa says investigations into the matter are ongoing.
“This investigation has been
prioritized to establish the facts and the full circumstances of the incident,"
said PRASA.
PRASA says they have also
received reports that certain passengers have attempted to intimidate, threaten,
or prevent foreign nationals from travelling on its trains.
"Every passenger who boards a
PRASA train is entitled to travel safely and with dignity, regardless of who
they are or where they are from. We are treating these allegations with the
seriousness they deserve, and we will not allow a small number of incidents to
undermine the trust our commuters place in us every day,” said Raymond Maseko, regional manager, PRASA Western Cape.
