Police are investigating two separate shooting incidents in Cape Town that claimed the lives of seven people and left several others injured on Wednesday.
The first incident occurred in Mitchells Plain, where three people were killed and two others wounded after armed suspects allegedly opened fire on a group of five men. Emergency services responded to the scene, while detectives launched an investigation into the deadly attack.
In a separate incident later the same day, four people were
shot and killed in Marcus Garvey, Philippi East. Three other victims sustained
injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said the motive behind both shootings is still unknown. He confirmed that no arrests have been made and investigations into both cases are continuing.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist investigators to come forward by contacting the South African Police Service or submitting anonymous tips through the Crime Stop hotline.
The latest incidents add to growing concerns over violent
crime in parts of Cape Town, with police working to determine whether the
shootings are linked.
