Three Arrested After Firearms and Ammunition Seized in Crossroads

 Three suspects have been arrested in Crossroads following the seizure of several firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and other items from a suspicious vehicle.

The arrests were made by officers from the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) during patrols in the area. According to the City, officers received a tip-off from members of the public regarding a suspicious vehicle.

Acting on the information, officers stopped and searched the vehicle, where they discovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.

The search reportedly uncovered four rifles, a pistol and more than 350 rounds of ammunition. Officers also recovered several vehicle registration plates and electrical equipment from inside the vehicle.

The three suspects were subsequently arrested and are expected to face charges relating to the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The seizure highlights ongoing concerns around the circulation of illegal firearms in communities across Cape Town, particularly in areas affected by gang violence and other forms of crime.

City of Cape Town MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, expressed concern over the number of illegal weapons circulating in the city. He also highlighted the importance of information provided by members of the public in helping law enforcement officers identify and intercept suspected criminal activity.

The latest arrests demonstrate the role that community tip-offs can play in supporting law enforcement efforts. By reporting suspicious activity, residents can assist authorities in removing illegal weapons from the streets and potentially preventing violent crimes.

The investigation into the seized firearms, ammunition and other items is expected to continue as authorities work to establish where the weapons came from and whether they may have been linked to other criminal activities.

The City has continued to encourage residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to the relevant authorities.
