Two suspects aged 41 and 48 were arrested yesterday on fraud charges going back to 2018.
According to reports, during
2018 and 2020, the South African Zakah fund received an application from the
two suspects for financial assistance to conduct Islamic Studies and Qur’aan memorization
for under privileged youth. The two was registered as directors of the South
African Zakah fund and subsequently received an amount of R171 350 in support
of under privileged youth.
The pair used funds for their
travelling expenses.
The duo appeared at the Cape
Town Magistrates Court today, and were released on R4000 bail. R3000 for Siraaj
and R1000 for Sharima.
