The Western Cape has been rocked by a wave of deadly shootings, with at least 11 people killed in separate gun attacks over the weekend.
Police responded to incidents in Gugulethu, Manenberg, and Stellenbosch while investigations continue into the motives behind the violence.
The latest attack happened early on Monday morning in NY50, Gugulethu, where five people were shot dead. The victims, four men and one woman aged between 19 and 23, were declared dead at the scene. Another woman was wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
In Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, four people lost their lives in another shooting on Sunday. Four others were injured, including two police officers who were caught in the attack.
In Manenberg, a 74-year-old woman was shot, while two men were killed in the same incident.
The violence follows a separate triple murder in Site B, Khayelitsha, on Friday. Three men in their thirties were killed in that attack.
The series of shootings has raised renewed concerns about gun violence and safety in communities across the province. Police say investigations into all the incidents are ongoing, and the reasons behind the attacks have not yet been established.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information that could assist with the investigations to come forward.
