The Western Cape has welcomed the appointment of Lt General Sizakhele Dyantyi as the Western Cape Police Commissioner.
Courtesy: Supplied Lieutenant General Dyantyi brings with him 34 years of policing experience, having served in various operational and leadership roles across both the Eastern and Western Cape.
Premier Alan Winde and the Minister
of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais have welcomed this
appointment.
“Our residents deserve and
desperately need a police service that is properly resourced, intelligence –
led and capable of effectively combatting and preventing violent crime” said
Winde.
MEC Anroux Marais said Dyantyi
is not completely a stranger in her office as they have worked together before.
“He is certainly not a
stranger top my office as we worked closely together in addressing numerous
challenges in his capacity as the West Coast District Commissioner” Marais.
Political parties have shown
support towards the new appointment of the provincial commissioner.
Action SA says his operational
experience offers an opportunity to strengthen the fight against gangsterism,
violent crime and extortion.
“We are ready to support every
genuine effort to combat gangsterism, organized crime and to restore public confidence
in SAPS” Action SA’s Dereleen James
On the other hand, the DA’s
Benedicta van Minnen says the crime rate in the province is too high: “communities
deserve police service that is that is properly resourced and empowered to
dismantle gangs, combat gang violence and restore public trust in law
enforcement”. She said.
