Cape Town trail-running enthusiast George de Rock has died at the age of 47 after falling during a run at Constantia Nek on Thursday.
De Rock had planned to celebrate his 47th birthday by
completing a 47-kilometre trail run, combining a personal milestone with his love
of running and the outdoors.
His wife, Yolanda, confirmed his death and said the family
was devastated by the tragedy and needed time to process their loss.
In a message shared before the run, De Rock reflected on
his passion for trail running and the courage it takes to take on difficult
challenges. His words offered an insight into the enthusiasm and determination
he brought to the sport.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of tributes
