A senior staff member at Blossom Street Primary School in Bridgetown, Athlone, is being investigated following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving five learners.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that it is aware of the allegations and is working with the South African Police Service as investigations continue.
Police have confirmed that the matter has been reported to the Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. However, no criminal case has been registered, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
The staff member is currently not at the school while the investigation continues.
The WCED has also started its own labour and disciplinary processes. The department says it has no record of previous disciplinary action or charges against the educator.
The department says the safety and well-being of learners remains a priority. Psychosocial support, including social workers and other support staff, has been made available to assist learners at the school.
Despite the investigation, the WCED says the school remains stable and teaching and learning are continuing as normal.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates are expected once police formally register a criminal case.
