Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said investigators believe tyres were used to set the victims alight. A murder case has been opened, but the motive remains unknown.

Dunoon ward councillor Bulelwa Mayende said residents believe the killings may be linked to allegations of a gang-rape syndicate operating in the community since June.

However, Mayende stressed that the four victims have not been identified and there is no official confirmation that they were involved in the alleged crimes.

She also blamed limited police resources for growing frustration among residents, saying only one police van was reportedly available to serve Dunoon.

The incident has raised concerns about vigilantism and the need for effective policing as authorities work to identify the victims and establish what led to their deaths.
