The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has defunded 2,582 student beneficiaries who did not meet the scheme’s academic progression requirements.
Courtesy: GoogleHigher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela revealed the figures in a parliamentary response.
According to the minister, a further 9,519 students are still awaiting their academic results and have therefore not yet been finalised by NSFAS.
Among those affected by the funding decisions are students who are in their final year of study.
The development could have significant implications for affected students, particularly those who are close to completing their qualifications and rely on NSFAS to cover their educational costs.
NSFAS funding is subject to students meeting the scheme’s academic progression requirements, which are intended to ensure that beneficiaries make sufficient progress towards completing their qualifications.
