Accidents have claimed eight lives in and around Butterworth in the Eastern Cape during the past 24 hours.
Police say six people died in the worst incident in a five-car pile-up on the N-2 near the town.
Four women, a two-year-old child and a 26-year-old man died in this accident.
In another accident yesterday, a 33-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a car near the Ndabakzi Station, while a 40-year-old man lost his life when he lost control of his car between Dutywa and Butterworth.
