Case postponed of duo accused of murdering woman in Strand

Two suspects accused of murdering a City of Cape Town Health employee intends to apply for bail when they reappear in court on Monday.

Hlalanathi Dimayi (26) en Thembinkosi Mtuzula (46) briefly appeared in the Strand magistrates court on Wednesday, after they were arrested on Tuesday, for killing 41-year-old Bongeka Bidi, who was sitting in the parking lot at the Strand Municpal Building in her Toyota Fortuner on Monday morning.

Bush Radio News previously reported that Bidi, was alone in vehicle when the incident occurred.

‘’An unknown male approached her on foot, took out two firearms and shot several shots through the driver side window. Deceased was hit several times. The suspect then walked away and got into a white Opel Astra that waited and drove off. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk at the time.

The duo was nabbed following statements from several witnesses, where the suspect’s vehicle was identified in Site C Khayelitsha.

Bidi’s husband was shot and killed in Qumbu, Eastern Cape in October 2023. There are reports that the murder could be taxi-related.
