Western Cape police acted swiftly by apprehending two suspects on Tuesday, in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old woman that was stationed outside Strand Municipal building on Monday.
Bush Radio News previously reported that the woman,
now identified as Bongeka Bidi, was sitting in the parking lot in her Toyota
Fortuner when an unknown man shot at her. She was alone in vehicle. At the time
of her death the deceased was working for the Health Department within the City
of Cape Town.
‘’An unknown male approached her on foot, took out two
firearms and shot several shots through the driver side window. Deceased was
hit several times. The suspect then walked away and got into a white Opel Astra
that waited and drove off. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by
medical personnel,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk at the time.
He said several witnesses statements were obtained and a vehicle use by the suspect was identified.
‘’The vehicle was tested on the system and positively
identified at a premises in Site C Khayelitsha. The vehicle was confiscated and
booked in as exhibit at Stikland,’’ said van Wyk.
It was further revealed that her husband was shot and killed in Qumbu, Eastern Cape in October 2023. There are reports that the murder could be taxi-related.
The duo, aged 26 and 46, are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates court on Wednesday, on murder charges.
