5 year old bumped over in Capricorn

 A 5 year old died after an alleged drunk driver driving a branded Fidelity company vehicle bumped into her while she was playing on Saturday in Capricorn.

 The incident took place in Doring Street and the driver of the Fidelity vehicle is in hospital after community members assaulted him. The 44 year old allegedly bumped 2 other kids as well. According to the grieving family of little Liyolatha Nompumza, the incident took place around 2pm.

The aunt Mandisa Matiya explained that little Liyolatha was playing outside in the sand with her friends where she always played when the taxi knocked them.

 "We found out just after the accident happened when some children came in crying to tell us that she was knocked by the taxi. When we arrived at the scene, she was under the taxi and a lady pulled her out. The community beat the driver. We did not have the power to do anything or speak to the driver, we were too shocked”.

Mandisa said that Liyolatha was an only child and was in creche. She said that the family are familiar with the driver as he used to come with the same company vehicle to the neighbours in the road.

The aunt said “This is not a nice situation for the family to be in and as a result we do not know what we are going to do because the mother is not working and nobody at home is working. We do not know how we are going to bury the child.”
