Suspected arrested for mass murder in Nyanga

A 25-year-old man is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Thursday for the murder of four people on Christmas Day in Nyanga.

Bush Radio News previously reported that the incident occurred at approximately 22:00 at a residence in Mplangeni Street, in Ofcon Hostel, where two unknown suspects allegedly entered a single-room structure and opened fire on the occupants. The victims who succumbed to their injuries are estimated to be between 25 and 40 years of age.

‘’Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives were assigned to the case and started with the investigation into the murders. Detectives traced witnesses who helped with the identification of a possible suspect. Information was received that the suspect is due to appear in Wynberg Regional Court on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm however, he failed to show up for his court appearance and a warrant of arrest was issued for his immediate arrest. Further investigation led detectives to a hospital where the suspect was admitted. He was discharged from hospital and was arrested for murder,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.
