Portland in Mitchell’s Plain, has seen a rise in violence, with the latest incident occurring on Wednesday night. A 36-year-old man was shot and killed in Baakens Street, just before 10p.m. A 32-year-old man was left wounded in the attack.
‘’Police members attended to the crime scene where they
found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The 36-year-old victim
was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim
was taken to a medical facility for treatment. We can confirm that three
suspects were arrested by members of LEAP.
They will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’ court once they
have been charged,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
Bush Radio News reached out to Law Enforcement who
confirmed that the scene was handed over to SAPS.
‘’Officers found that two males had been shot - one
fatally. They apprehended a suspect in possession of a firearm and live
ammunition, and alerted Emergency Medical Services to attend to the second
shooting victim. Officers handed over the suspect and the confiscated firearm
at Mitchells Plain SAPS,’’ said Wayne Dyason, Law Enforcement spokesperson.
In an unrelated matter, earlier that day, not far from the
scene, officers were conducting patrols in Hazeldene Drive, when they stopped
at a local church premises to check if everything is in order at the church.
‘’While walking around the premises officers found a
firearm with ammunition hidden between the concrete blocks. An investigation
into the discovery was initiated to establish the ownership of the firearm,’’
said Twigg.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times
through the front door of his home on Germiston Road, late on Sunday. Police
are investigating an attempted murder case, with no arrests being made as yet
