A Western Cape man has been sentenced for murdering his girlfriend in a domestic dispute almost two years ago.
Collin Heyns was convicted at George magistrate court. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)
spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said during trial the court heard the accused
strangled his girlfriend when she refused to have sexual intercourse with him.
The victim’s body was found
the next morning in their home in the Rosedale informal settlement in
Pacaltsdorp, in June 2020 along with their 6-year-old child, according to
police the perpetrator handed himself to the police later that day.
During the trial, he pleaded
not guilty, but the court found that he had direct intent to kill the deceased
and handed him 15 years' direct imprisonment.
