Suspect arrested in gang-related murder in Parkwood; Thembalethu SAPS arrests 2 suspects for separate murder cases

Western Cape police arrested a 30-year-old man in Parkwood, on Sunday, after the suspect gunned down a 39-year-old man in a suspected gang related murder.

‘’Last night (Saturday) at around 19:10 a 39-year-old man was shot and killed in Dove Road, Parkwood, in what we believe was a gang related murder. Investigations by detectives led to the arrest of a 30 year old male during the early hours of this (Sunday) morning,’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut.

In an unrelated matter, police in the Southern Cape has arrested two suspects in two different cases of murder that was reported over the weekend.

These murders claimed the lives of two, a 29-year-old Thulelwe Volantiyo and the 19-year-old Malakhiwe Skhundla, both from Thembalethu near George.

‘’The initial incident that eventually claimed the life of 29-year-old Thulelwe Volantiyo on the 1 April 2022, already happened on 26 March 2022 when the deceased and the suspect had an altercation at a premises in Zone 5, Thembalethu. It is further alleged that the suspect stabbed the deceased on her neck where after she was admitted to the local hospital in a critical condition,’’ said Captain Malcolm Pojie.

‘’The SAPS was informed that she passed away on 01 April 2022 where after a Murder docket was opened for further investigation. Information gathered by the investigation officer led to the arrest of the 37-year-old suspect over the weekend,’’ added Pojie.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Skhundla was stabbed to death by the 18-year-old suspect who has since been arrested following information on his whereabouts.

‘’The second incident happened on Sunday, 03 April 2022 at approximately 04:45 in Lukhanyo Street in Zone 6, Thembalethu. Both suspects are currently detained at the Thembalethu SAPS holding cells, pending their first court appearance in the George Magistrates’ court, once charged,’’ said Captain Pojie.
