Case postponed in case against man who allegedly killed mother and niece

Western Cape police's Joseph Swartbooi said that one suspect was arrested in connection with a double murder in Bishop Lavis.

The 39-year-old believed to be a family member made a court appearance on Monday. This is after police officers uncovered the bodies of a 65-year-old woman and her 12-year-old granddaughter, in Kalksteenfontein on Saturday.

"Upon arrival at the crime scene, they found the bodies of two females inside the dwelling. The victims were both declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. A 39-year-old male has since been arrested and detained on a charge of murder," Swartbooi said.

Kalksteenfontein residents rallied outside, saying the justice system had already failed the victims as the perpetrator had protection order against him.

The murder case has been postponed until Thursday for the accused to get a Legal Aid lawyer.
