The 57-year-old Moehydien Pangkaeker was found guilty of kidnap, rape, murder and mutilation of Tazne Van Wyk after she had gone missing from a tuckshop in Clare Street, Elsies River, on February 7, 2020.
Acting Judge Alan Maher will pass the
sentencing of the accused on Valentine’s Day.
The 8-year-old girl’s
decomposing remains were found dumped in a storm water drain off the N1 in
Worcester on February 19, 2020.
State advocate Lenro
Badenhorst argued that it is submitted that the accused is a repeat offender
who indiscriminately targets young girls for sexual pleasure and therefore his
moral blameworthiness is high. He labeled him as a monster who cannot be tolerated in a civilized community.
The State wants the
Western Cape high court to hand down at least nine life sentences to the
accused. On Wednesday, the Western Cape high
court heard sentencing mitigation.
