Case against man accused of murdering his aunt moves to High Court

The family member of slain magistrate Romay van Rooyen will have his trial heard in the Western Cape High Court.

18-year-old Cassidy Hartzenberg, appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Hartzenberg was arrested a few days after 50 year-old Van Rooyen was found strangled to death in her Marina Da Gama home, in September 2022.

Hartzenberg was arrested in Mitchells Plain, after Van Rooyen’s vehicle was found on Highland’s Drive, Mitchells Plain.

During proceedings, the indictment and summary of facts were handed over to the court.

He faces charges of murder and theft.

His pre-trial is expected to get underway on 17 March.
