Police Minister, Bheki Cele led a SAPS delegation, on
Monday, where he visited two Cape Town communities that have been left reeling
from two-weekend crime incidents.
In the first incident, which occurred last Sunday, two
gunmen entered the Showers of Blessings Christian Zion Church in Taiwan;
Khayelitsha.
According to the police's Wesley Twigg, the two allegedly
robbed the congregation and sexually assaulted two ladies, before fleeing with
the cash and smartphones. He also said that two suspects, aged 20 and 25, made
their first court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday, as
part of the business robbery and sexual assault cases that Khayelitsha FCS is
looking into.
In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man is in police
custody after he murdered a three-year-old boy in Kraaifontein in the early
hours of Sunday morning.
According to the police’s Joseph Swartbooi, it is alleged
the suspect who is related to the toddler, hacked him to death with an axe.
''Upon arrival in Bhunga Street, Wallacedene at around
01:00. They found the body of a three-year-old boy who sustained fatal
injuries. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical
personnel.
Kraaifontein police arrested and detained a 50-year-old
male.''
''Once charged he is expected to make a court appearance in
the Blue Downs Magistrate court on a charge of murder,'' added Swartbooi.
