A 27-year-old was shot and killed during peak-hour traffic at a Kuilsriver taxi rank, at Blackheath Primary School on Wednesday morning.
Reports suggest that the man was shot during a taxi-related turf war.
According to police spokesperson FC Van Wyk, a murder case has been opened.
"The circumstances and motive are currently under investigation," he added.
"There were a lot of eyewitnesses. People were on their way to work and taking taxis at the rank. People were taking their children to work, and children were in the schoolyard. It was chaos," he said.
Kleinvlei Community Policing Forum chairperson Hubert Kemp said that the turf-related incident was related to another taxi operator using the taxi rank.
Kemp added that this was the first time taxi-related violence had occurred in the area.
