Body of 18-year-old found on railway tracks next to Bonteheuwel

Western Cape police are probing a case of murder, after an 18-year-old was shot and killed in Kalksteenfontein, on Wednesday.

The police’s FC van Wyk said the body was found near the railway line next to Bonteheuwel.

 “On Wednesday, July 12 at about 8.46am Bishop Lavis SAPS members were informed of a body lying on the railway track next to Bonteheuwel. Upon their arrival, they found the body of an 18-year-old male person with a gunshot wound to the head. The police are investigating a case of murder,” said Captain F.C van Wyk said.

According to Sub Council Chairperson, Angus Mckenzie, this is the third body to have been discovered on the railway tracks in recent weeks.

McKenzie urged anyone with information to report it to police

‘’While I am appealing to residents of Kalksteenfontein and neighboring areas to speak up, I do understand the apprehension due to fear. Therefore, I am appealing to the Community Policing Forum, a body set up and elected to be the link between the community and SAPS to fulfill their duty and mandate by creating these channels for likely informants to come forward.’’

‘’This is critical at this point to ensure SAPS are supported in bringing an end to these deaths. While this murder is gang related, it still leaves families and friends in pain and a community in fear,’’ he added.
