A petition, drawn up by Change.org, with more than 30 000 signatures were handed over along with a memorandum to the City of Cape Town officials, on Saturday, as group Electricity Must Fall, marched to Lentegeur Administrative Office, in Mitchell’s Plain, in protest of poor service delivery, high electricity cost, the increase in fuel prices and what converner, Natasha Gertse, says the’’ dissatisfaction with unaffordable bills.’’
Gertse says she is elated that an official from the
municipality accepted the memorandum, despite earlier reports that no one will
be there to receive the document.
‘’Ashley Potts and Danny Christians [Subcouncil 17
councillors] accepted the memorandum. It was a huge success, however the only
disappointment was that we were not a lot of people, but I would like to appeal
to the community to take these opportunities and speak up and raise their
voices and speak about their personal issues, as this affects us all,’’ said Natasha
Gertse, founder of Electricity Must Fall.
