Suspect allegedly behind murder of Loyiso Nkohla to remain behind bars, for now

One of the suspects, believed to be behind the murder of a well-known social activist, Loyiso Nkohla Mabandla, has decided to remain behind bars, until his next court appearance in 2024.

38-year-old Zukisa Tshabile appeared at the Athlone Magistrate Court on 6 November, where he decided to abandon his bail application. Nkohla was shot and killed at the Phillipi railway station on 17 April 2023.

As previously reported by Bush Radio news, police suspect that he was killed for his role in talks to clear Metrorail's Central Line, where people occupied the line by erecting shacks.

Tshabile has been charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The case was postponed to 15 February 2024, for further investigation.
