The Western Cape’s Education Department (WCED) says it has placed additional security at a school in Samora Machel, after a learner fatally stabbed another learner, on Wednesday.
According to the WCED spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, a Grade
11 learner succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed in the neck by a Grade
10 learner on Wednesday morning. It’s alleged that the Grade 11 learner, (19) stabbed
the Grade 10 learner (17), following an alleged altercation, the previous day.
It’s unclear what the fight was about and the motive for the incident.
‘’The WCED has sent officials to the school to provide
support and counselling and we have also placed additional security at the
school. This is now a SAPS investigation; however disciplinary action will be
taken against the alleged perpetrator. Our condolences to the family, friends
and school community. This is a tragic case all-round, with one child fatally
wounded and another child to face criminal charges,’’ said Bronagh Hammond,
WCED spokesperson.
Western Cape police confirmed the incident, saying the
teenager was arrested and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
‘’Samora Machel police attended a complaint on Wednesday. Upon
