Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF) has urged community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The call comes after a man, allegedly behind a gang-related shooting in Woodlands, Mitchell’s Plain, was stoned to death, last week.
‘’Lentegeur police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Perseus Street… Police members attended the crime scene where they found the victim with multiple injuries to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, at the time.
A video of has since been circulating on social media.
Chairperson, Byron De Villiers, says the Lentegeur CPF are
deeply concerned about the recent incident of mob justice in the area.
‘’While we understand that people may feel frustrated and
angry in the face of crime and violence, we believe that taking the law into
one's own hands is never the right solution.
Mob justice undermines the very foundations of our justice system and
puts innocent lives at risk. Taking justice into one's own hands not only
violates the law but also denies the basic rights and freedoms.’’
‘’We therefore urge the community to refrain from engaging
in any form of mob justice and to report any criminal activity. We must work
together to create a safe and just society. Let us not allow anger and
frustration to cloud our judgment and lead us down a path of violence and
lawlessness. Instead let us stand together and uphold the rule of law for the sake
of our community and future,’’ added Byron De Villiers, Lentegeur CPF Chairperson.
