Three suspects, aged between 28 and 38, made their first court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday morning, following the mass murder that occurred in the Imizamo Yetho informal settlement in in Hout Bay, two weeks ago. Western Cape police confirmed the trio were arrested over the weekend.
‘’Investigation into the ruthless attack on the victims
originally led to the arrest of four suspects last week who were found in
possession of seven rounds of ammunition. While in custody, detectives pursued
further information which resulted in three being charged for the murders. The
possession of ammunition case is expected to be heard in court tomorrow
[Tuesday],’’ said Colonel Andrè Traut.
At the time of the incident, it was reported that five men
were shot and killed, and that two later succumbed to injuries, however it was
established that only one succumbed to injuries in hospital.
Traut said originally four suspects were arrested last week
who were found in possession of seven rounds of ammunition. While in custody,
added Traut, detectives pursued further information which resulted in three
being charged for the murders.
Akhona Khelephu, Mlungisi Mlanji and Nkosinathi Gojo were
charged with six counts of murder and three of attempted murder. The case will
resume on Friday, where the trio is expected to apply for bail.
